Chiles Peach Orchard Closed for the 2024 Season

What a bountiful year it’s been! Each season brought new and exciting fruits, events, and friends together at Chiles, and we had such a good time experiencing it all with you. We’ll be hard at work this winter preparing Chiles Peach Orchard for the 2025 season, but let’s reflect on this past year first!

This Year’s Pickings

This summer, we welcomed our first-ever crop of pick-your-own blackberries! We had high hopes for our bushes when they were planted in 2023, and they more than delivered. Visitors got to enjoy baskets full of dark, sweet, and juicy blackberries in June, and alongside strawberries and blueberries, this was one of our berry best seasons for pick-your-own.

A dry spell in the summer was cause for concern for many farms, but our peach and apple trees are resilient. They gave us another phenomenal season of delicious fruit, which lasted for a while on the branch thanks to a mild fall. With plenty of fruit and good weather, we hope you got the chance to pick some peaches and apples of your own this season!

Took my 80+ year old parents here for the first time. Ate a little bit of everything… the cider donuts, peach pie, peach wine, peach cider, cheese pizza, and peach milkshakes. They loved it and ended up buying a big box of peaches to enjoy and give to friends in their retirement home. Dad said the peach pie was the best he’s ever had… Days like today make for great memories with my parents, thanks so much!

Growing Together

The people who join us at Chiles are our favorite part of each season, and 2024 was no exception! Our Come Grow with Us children’s program was a fun way to get kids outdoors and learning, making crafts, and enjoying fresh fruit over the summer. Meanwhile, whole families swayed to the sounds of live music each weekend from May–October while sipping slushies and savoring apple cider donuts.

We always look forward to yearly traditions, like our Hop into Spring Easter event, or our Fall into Fun Festival celebrating autumn with old-fashioned apple butter making. The Crozet Lion’s Club came out this summer for our annual Homemade Peach Ice Cream Days, raising funds for the community with delicious ice cream!

See you for the 2025 season!

All of us here at Chiles Peach Orchard would like to thank you for another wonderful season. We anticipate re-opening in late March or early April. To stay up-to-date with orchard happenings and events in the new year, keep an eye out for emails from Chiles Peach Orchard and Chiles Family Orchards!

Chiles Peach Orchard Open for 2023 Season

Welcome back for another unforgettable season! Starting on Friday, March 31, we’ll be open daily from 10 AM–5 PM.

Over the last two months, we’ve been spending time with friends and family, attending farm market conferences, and, of course, preparing for another season of memory making and fun. We’ve even been improving our facilities, planting berries galore, and going through new inventory (three words: cute spring overload!)

Strawberry Outlook

Last month, 5th Generation Chiles Family Farmer Henry helped plant a new crop for pick-your-own in 2024!

While it’s still too soon to say exactly when pick-your-own strawberry season will begin, we anticipate those sweet, red berries ripening in early May.

Follow us on Facebook and Instagram to be among the first to know when we’re picking!

Farm Market & Bakery Goodness

Hop Into Spring on Saturday, April 8

The easter bunny balancing an egg

We’re starting the 2023 orchard season on a festive note with our Hop Into Spring festival on Saturday, April 8! The day promises lots of fun: an Easter egg hunt, egg roll, potato painting, animal visits, and photo opportunities with a certain special bunny. There will be a few golden eggs hidden, too!

This event is geared towards children ages 2-10, though all are welcome. To make the most of the day’s festivities, reserve an Easter Bunny Passport for your little one! No tickets are required for parents and non-participating children.

By the way… we’re hiring!

Chiles Peach Orchard Open for 2022 Season

Spring has sprung, and that means it’s time to kick off another year of fun at Chiles Peach Orchard.

For the last few weeks, our team has been hard at work preparing the store and getting back into the swing of things. It’s been so good having everyone together again to pursue a common goal: creating the best experience possible for our visitors. The time has finally come to welcome the community back for another unforgettable season!

The Farm Market & Bakery is stocked full of exciting new items alongside your longtime favorites, including our Peach Salsa and Peach Habanero Salsa (available in the Farm Market and online)! And, of course, those delicious cider donuts are in season year-round to tide us over until the first fruits of the season ripen.

Strawberry icecream

For ice cream, we’ll begin the season with strawberry frozen yogurt and our classic vanilla. Expect some fun new flavors in the coming weeks when we move the Ice Cream Shop to a recently renovated space!

Chiles Peach Orchard Closed for the 2021 Season

That’s a wrap! Thank you for another incredible season of welcoming visitors from near and far to our orchard for wholesome family fun.

As we close our doors for the winter, we’re fondly remembering the highlights from the 2021 season.

Season’s Pickings

peaches and blueberries at chiles peach orchard

From spring strawberries to fall pumpkins and apples, there sure were plenty of pickings this year! There’s no doubt that summer’s bounty was the star.

We could hardly pick our blueberries and peaches fast enough! While blueberries were late to the party in early June, they held on for a long season and made it through the end of July.

Peaches also started out strong in June and held on ‘til the end of September. In fact, they got some well-deserved attention from Wine & Country Magazine.

Giving Back

This year, we committed to donating our tips to Meals on Wheels of Charlottesville/Albemarle as a heartfelt “thank you” for all that they do. The result? We raised over $5,000! That translates to over 900 meals for Meals on Wheels clients.

Thank you so much to all who contributed this summer!

Showing Off Our Refreshed Look

We unveiled our new look in May with refreshed logos and a fabulous website update! Leading up to the opening of our new venue, we undertook the family endeavor of unifying each of our locations’ logos with one consistent “C”.

Have you noticed our new logo on products and signs throughout the orchard?

Raising A Glass

2021 was the year of wine for the Chiles Family Orchards community. While we’ve been harvesting grapes for generations, this year marked our entrance into the world of winemaking.

Carter Mountain Wine Release

The wine fun doesn’t stop there—we also opened Chiswell Farm & Winery in November! This adults-only venue is just a hop, skip, and a jump away from the orchard, making it a peaceful escape for wine sippers and connoisseurs alike.

The winery will be open afternoons through the winter, including New Years’ Eve and Day to ring in 2022! Please note that Chiswell will be closed on Christmas Eve and Day.

Thank you for a wonderful 2021 season! We are so grateful for the opportunity to welcome families and friends to our orchard for another year of unforgettable memories.

Stay connected on our Facebook and Instagram pages for updates on when we will open for the spring!

Chiles Peach Orchard Closed for 2020 Season

How could any recap capture what a crazy year it’s been? We’ve never been more grateful to be able to welcome visitors out to the orchard for some outdoor family fun.

As we close our doors for this season, we’re reflecting on all that has happened during 2020.

COVID-19 delayed our season opening and brought about a new way of doing things. We introduced a drive-through service in early April for a quick and safe way to deliver fresh Chiles Family Orchards produce and goodies from our farm to your bellies.

The new Ivy Road Pop-up is a convenient pickup point for our produce, cider, and, of course, apple cider donuts.

Strawberries started in late April but cooler than normal temperatures throughout the spring made them slower to ripen. Boy were those red, ripe strawberries worth the wait!

Summer’s bounty was particularly delightful this year, filling our Farm Market with sunflowers, zinnias, asparagus, tomatoes, blueberries, cherries, peaches, apples, and pumpkins.

Our outdoor events, the Orchard Jams concert series and Come Grow with Us summer children’s program, provided some much-needed (COVID-compliant) fun.

Come Grow with Us children's event at Chiles Peach Orchard

We’re a family business and that family includes our amazing staff. We couldn’t do it without them!

Whether we could see them or not, we loved cultivating so many smiles and can’t wait to welcome everyone back next year!

Guide to Visiting Chiles Peach Orchard this Fall

Fall is nearly here and with it comes some of our favorite moments: dunking apple cider donuts into steaming cider, carving spooky jack-o-lanterns, and baking pies for the Thanksgiving table. While we’ll be doing things a little differently this year to protect our staff, visitors, and community during the pandemic, we’re grateful for the role our family farm plays in these traditions for our visitors.

We’re offering several ways to experience the orchard this fall, including ticketed entry for weekend apple and pumpkin picking, curbside pickup for Farm Market goods and specialty foods, and distanced shopping. To plan your visit, please read the options below.

We know that many of you may decide that you won’t be with us this year. We will miss you, and we understand. We’ll be here when you are ready to come back.

We’re open daily!

The 2020 fall hours for Chiles Peach Orchard are:

September–October: 9am–6pm
On Sunday, Nov. 1: 9am–5pm
Starting Nov. 2: 10am–5pm

COVID-19 Visitor Guidelines

The orchard, of course, is an outdoor and well-ventilated setting, but please keep everyone’s visit enjoyable by keeping your face covering on unless eating or drinking, staying socially distanced, and limiting your visit to under 2 hours. Feel free to ask any of our staff members if you have any questions at all. Please review our visitor guidelines before arriving at the orchard.

Pick-Your-Own Apples and Pumpkins

10/22 UPDATE: Tickets required for weekend access through Sunday, Nov. 1.

To moderate crowd size, we will be operating at reduced capacity during our peak season. For this reason, we will require tickets for anyone planning to pick your own apples and/or pumpkins on weekends (Saturdays & Sundays).

No tickets are required to pick your own on Mondays–Fridays. (We highly recommend a weekday visit!)

The apple trees are loaded with fruit and the pumpkins are ripening nicely: if Mother Nature continues to smile on us, it’ll be a fantastic crop this year. Check out our PYO page to see what varieties are available and learn about our special picking policies.

Farm Market and Bold Rock Tap Room (Tickets Not Required)

Our Farm Market will be open for gifts and specialty food shopping, while the pavilion will offer apples, apple cider donuts, and some surprise treats (follow us on Facebook for updates).

The seasonal Bold Rock Tap Room will also be open.

Apple Season Will Look a Little Different This Year

For over 40 years, the Chiles Family, along with our amazing staff, have invited people from all over to visit our orchard each fall to pick their own apples. It’s a family tradition for us, and we know for many of you as well. Our 2020 fall season must be different due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We are committed to protecting our staff and our guests.

Beginning Friday, September 11, we invite you to enjoy our fresh, mountain-grown apples, famous apple cider donuts, jams and jellies, and the beautiful view and hospitality that we are known for—in a new way.

We know that many of you may decide that 2020 is the year you will skip your visit. We will miss you, and we understand. We’ll be here when you are ready.

Some might want to enjoy our scenic view (and some cider donuts) but aren’t comfortable getting out of your car. We get it. And we can make that happen with our Scenic Drive-Thru.

Some may want to pick up donuts and apples but not the “hassle” of driving up the mountain. Here are some other ways to get a taste of the orchard.

And for those who still want to have your traditional fall experience like you always have, complete with apple picking, we can accommodate you through our ticketed entry.

So, please read the options carefully—planning ahead will make for the best apple season experience!

COVID-19 Updates: Season Opening Date Postponed

As the COVID-19 situation evolves, the safety and health of our customers, employees, and community remain our top priority. We are closely following the guidelines issued by the CDC, including frequent hand-washing, disinfecting surfaces, and social distancing. Our staff has undergone additional training and will continue to abide by new sanitation guidelines when we open our doors.

Chiles Peach Orchard’s 2020 season-opening date is being postponed to April 15. This date is tentative at this time and will be reevaluated as circumstances warrant. As new developments occur, we will adjust our operations and events calendar as necessary. The Hop Into Spring event has been canceled.

In the meantime, our online store remains open for business with gift cards, t-shirts and apparel, and specialty foods. The kitchens are temporarily closed for baked good production but Chiles Family Orchards jams and jellies, apple butter, salad dressings, BBQ sauces, and prepared mixes are as tasty and convenient as ever. We’re currently offering 50% off our standard shipping rates.

On a brighter note, the weather is shaping up for a beautiful spring and the peach blossoms are stunning to see. Since we are not open, we are not able to welcome guests into the farm fields at this time. You may take photos from the roadside.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the orchards when it is safe to do so. Our family has proudly served the Crozet community for generations, and we thank you for your support during these difficult times.

If you have questions, please reach out on Facebook or at Hello@ChilesPeachOrchard.com.

Sincerely,
The Chiles Family
