We often have seasonal positions available. These are great jobs for mature and personable high school and college students, retired folks, moms, and anyone looking to supplement their income. Depending on the season, positions available can vary. If you enjoy working with people in a great outdoor, family-oriented atmosphere, we may be looking for you! You must be at least 15 years old to apply for a position with us. Anyone under 16 must have a work permit (issued by Va Dept of Labor) before beginning a job with us.
Please note, all jobs are SEASONAL. We open in April and stay open through December.

Employment Opportunities at Carter Mountain Orchard
Administrative AssistantOur small office stays busy! We need an organized, bubbly personality to keep it all together! Duties include, but not limited to, providing excellent customer service by being the voice of our business (answering customer inquiries via phone, e-mail, social media, and in person), producing signage and labels, performing administrative tasks, coordinating online store orders, data entry and computer work, etc. Must be proficient in MS Office programs, and tech-savvy (office equipment, social media, etc.), and will be trained for retail sales as well. Shifts will generally include Thursdays through Mondays. Office and customer service experience highly preferred.
Bakery Cashier/AssistantDuties include, but not limited to: providing excellent customer service by taking orders, cashiering, prep, washing dishes, cleaning, etc. Customer service experience preferred. Weekday, evening, and weekend shifts available.
Birthday Party HostDuties include, but not limited to: providing excellent customer service by coordinating logistics of birthday parties, including assisting with reservations, greeting groups upon arrival, leading games and keeping the party going, and staying with group while on property to ensure that everyone has a great time. Must be organized, friendly, and enjoy working with children. Please note, most birthday parties occur on weekends. Will also perform retail sales duties when no parties taking place.
Candy/Caramel Apple Maker (now hiring)Short-term opportunity to make some extra money! Approximately 30 hours/week to produce high quality caramel and candy apples for our fall season. The qualified candidate must be reliable, have high attention to detail, be able to work independently, and be able to mass-produce a high quality product in a short period of time. Kitchen experience and knowledge of food safety practices is a plus.
This position lasts about 6 weeks - from mid-September til late October. This position can be combined with another position for more hours.
Donut Maker/Pie Baker/Bakery Assistant (NOW HIRING)Time to make the donuts! We are looking for energetic, hard-working, and happy people to help in our busy bakery! You'll learn to make our famous apple-cider donuts, you'll bake pies and cookies, and help keep our kitchens safe and clean. Weekday and weekend hours available. Kitchen experience helpful. Some very long days on your feet will be part of the schedule! Short term position (through mid-November)
Field Trip LeadersDuties include, but not limited to: providing excellent customer service and educational experiences to our school groups visiting the orchard. Meet teachers and students as they check in, lead them through each component of their field trip, and teach provided educational information. Must be organized, energetic, flexible, and love working with pre-school and school-age children. Most field trips are on weekday mornings; some afternoon tours are scheduled. This position can be combined with a retail sales position (see above). Field Trip Season is mid-September through mid-October.
Floor ManagerDuties include, but not limited to: providing excellent customer service by performing opening and/or closing duties, supervising staff, managing deliveries and inventories, interacting with and assisting customers, problem-solving, cashiering, etc. Must be solution-oriented, organized, personable, and flexible, and insure that a positive work environment is maintained while providing a high level of customer service. You will be on your feet all day! Retail management and/or customer service experience highly preferred.
Food Service ManagerDuties include, but not limited to: providing excellent customer service by developing menus (using our products as much as possible), analyzing costs, working with vendors to procure supplies, coordinating and accepting food and supply inventories and deliveries, maintaining an extremely safe and clean kitchen environment, and promoting a positive work environment, all while maintaining extremely high quality output while controlling costs. Experience in cooking for crowds and managing a staff is required. Weekend work is required. This job is very fast-paced and requires you to be on your feet all day.
Kitchen Prep (now hiring)Kitchen experience preferred. Must be able to follow directions and work independently. Duties include prepping food, wrapping sandwiches, cleaning, washing dishes, and other duties as assigned. Must be completely reliable. Days and some evenings required. Short term position (goes through October)
Retail Sales (NOW HIRING)Duties include, but not limited to: providing excellent customer service by greeting and waiting on walk-in customers, stocking (lifting and carrying boxes), cashiering, and maintaining an exceptionally clean facility. Must be accurate, customer-oriented, enjoy working with the public, and spending time outdoors. You will be on your feet all day! Weekday and weekend shifts available, days and some evenings. Customer service/retail experience preferred. Short term position (through mid-November)
Tractor DriversDuties include: providing excellent customer service by carefully driving a tractor that pulls a hay wagon for tours of the orchard, as well as fueling and taking care of the tractor and wagon. Must be neat in appearance and enjoy interacting with the public. Proven experience driving tractor or farm equipment required. Weekday and weekend hours.

Baker/Fudge Maker (NOW HIRING)Duties include, but not limited to: providing excellent customer service by preparing baked goods, fudge, and other foods for sale; proper displaying, merchandising, and rotating of stock, monitoring cleanliness of kitchen facility, etc. Must be organized, flexible, and reliable. Kitchen and/or baking experience preferred. Early morning hours required. Short term position, through mid-November
Donut Maker/Pie Baker (now hiring)Time to make the donuts! Our kitchen is busy, and we need help making donuts, baking pies, making caramel and candy apples, baking mixes, and other bakery products. We are a production-oriented kitchen and there is a lot of repetition during the shift. You will also keep the kitchen clean and safe. We start early in the morning! Mid-week and weekend hours, Saturdays required, and some Sundays. Kitchen experience helpful.
