What’s Growing

We have a 30+ year history of growing some of Virginia’s finest wine grapes right here in Albemarle County. We’ve supplied many of Virginia’s best wineries with Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot fruit since the mid-1990s from our vineyard planted on Carter Mountain.

In 2017, we planted a vineyard in Batesville and added Petit Verdot, Petit Manseng, and Sauvignon Blanc grapes to our lineup. Our newest acreage of grapes was planted at Chiswell in 2021 and includes Chambourcin, Vidal Blanc, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot.

A Glimpse Into the Past

The next time you visit Chiswell, ground yourself in the history of your surroundings. While today’s visitors enjoy the manor house’s beauty while sipping wine with friends and family, the origins of this home begin in 1920 with a tobacco auctioneer and railroad industrialist named Chiswell Dabney Langhorne.

Proudly Part of the Monticello Wine Trail

We are excited to celebrate Virginia’s winemaking heritage by joining the Monticello Wine Trail. This group of 40+ wineries produces the finest varietals in the area, earning countless local and national awards. Other member wineries near Chiswell include King Family Vineyards, Septenary Winery at Seven Oaks Farm, and Pollak Vineyards.
