Sparkling and White Wines

2021 Sparkling Chardonnay / 11.00 glass / 34.00 bottle

Dry | 12.9% ABV | Made entirely from chardonnay grapes, this blanc de blanc style bubbly is fantastic for mimosas, celebrating a special occasion, or just because. Try pairing with creamy cheeses, shellfish, or oysters for a decadent treat.

2021 Sparkling Rosé / 11.00 / 34.00

Dry | 12.3% ABV | Don’t let the delicate color fool you—its dry acidity stands up to strong flavors. The nose suggests fruits and minerals, while the astringent finish prepares you for your next bite. Enjoy this with your next brunch or charcuterie, parmesan cheese, pizza, and spicy ethnic dishes.

2023 Sauvignon Blanc / 10.00 / 30.00

Dry | 12.6% ABV | Crisp and refreshing New World style with notes of kiwi, grapefruit, gooseberry, and lemon zest. Pairs with tilapia and crab, herbed vegetables, and summer picnics.

2020 Chardonnay / 10.00 / 33.00

Dry | 12.3% ABV | Fermented 2/3 in neutral French oak and 1/3 in stainless steel, this wine presents depth, richness, and vibrant primary fruit flavors. Its clean, lighter body pairs well with seafood and fish, particularly halibut and trout.

2021 Chardonnay 10.00 / 34.00

Dry | 12.8% ABV | 100% French oaked with notes of yellow fruit ranging from golden delicious apple to delicate tropical flavors. Slow malolactic fermentation brings out the hint of lemon curd and crème brûlée. Savor the creamy mouthfeel and the lingering finish. Pair with rich dishes (lobster, risottos, chowders, alfredo) and nutty hard cheeses (Gruyère, Edam). 2024 Governor’s Cup Silver Medal | 2024 Monticello Cup Silver Medal

2021 Petit Manseng 10.00 / 32.00

Off-Dry | 13.3% ABV | With pineapple, lemon, and vanilla notes, this medium-bodied, full-flavored white wine coats the mouth deliciously. Malolactic fermentation smooths off the sharp finish. Enjoy with pork, poultry, and harvest veggies such as yams, squashes, and pumpkin. 100% barrel aged. 2024 Governor’s Cup Silver Medal

Rosé, Red, and Sweet Wines

2021 Rosé / 9.00 / 28.00

Dry | 12.0% ABV | Bright with notes of pink grapefruit and raspberry, and finishes with minerality and a crisp acidity. Our blend is 84% cabernet sauvignon and 16% merlot. Enjoy pairing with salads, prosciutto, and melon.

2022 Chambourcin 11.00 / 33.00

Dry | 13.5% ABV | We’re enjoying the black fruits, spice, and black pepper on the nose of this lighter bodied wine. The nice acidity and softer tannins make it incredibly easy to drink. Our suggested pairings include veal or venison, tomato-based dishes, enchiladas, and Edam cheese. Oh, and chocolate cake!

2021 Merlot / 11.00 / 35.00

Dry | 12.5% ABV | With dark fruits (plum, cherry) on the palate and a balanced tannin finish, this wine is delicious on its own or served with aged sharp cheddar, parmesan, pork shoulder, or roasted mushrooms.

2021 Cabernet Sauvignon / 11.00 / 36.00

Dry | 12.7% ABV | Full-bodied, balanced acidity, medium to high tannin structure. Green peppercorn, graphite, and cedar notes. Enjoy with red meats, peppery sauces, or hearty black bean soup with cumin. 2024 Governor’s Cup Silver Medal

2021 Meritage / 12.00 / 39.00

Dry | 12.5% ABV | Our velvety-smooth blend of petit verdot (44%), merlot (21%), cabernet sauvignon (21%), and cabernet franc (14%) was barrel-aged for 20 months. Notes of black fruits and light smoke on the nose, with dark cherry and plum prominent on the palate. Savory herbs and pepper on the finish. Our go-to pairings include smoked gouda and a good quality, simply seasoned steak. 2024 Governor’s Cup Silver Medal | 2024 Monticello Cup Silver Medal

2021 Petit Manseng (Sweet Albemarle) / 9.00 / 26.00

Sweet | 14% ABV | Refreshingly sweet, this wine balances palate-cleansing freshness with rich natural grapey sweetness. Pronounced aromas and tropical flavors (think guava, coconut, and pineapple). Pair with pungent blue cheese, spicy coconut curry, or our favorite, pineapple upside-down cake!

Any 4 wines of your choosing

Our blackberry bushes were initially planted at Chiles Peach Orchard in 2023 and Carter Mountain Orchard in 2025. Though a newer fruit at our orchards, we’ve been thrilled with each year’s bountiful harvest — and so have our visitors! Weather permitting, blackberry picking in Virginia is typically available in mid-June through July.

Blackberries feature uniquely bold and sweet flavors, with just the right amount of tartness to keep things interesting. Once you’ve tasted the earthy richness of farm-fresh local blackberries, it might be hard to go back to frozen!

There are hundreds of blackberry varieties, including thorned and thornless varieties. The thorned varieties are why blackberries (and raspberries) are often referred to as brambles, as this term references berries that grow on prickly shrubs. We grow thornless varieties for a safe and fun Virginia blackberry picking experience.

Picking Blackberries

As you pluck your blackberries from the vine, keep these tips in mind:

  1. Be picky: Take a moment to inspect each berry before adding it to your container. Look for signs of ripeness, such as deep black coloring and plumpness. Don’t be afraid to reach deep into the bush for the perfect berry!
  2. Tug gently: Use your fingertips to gently grasp the berries at the crown, giving a slight twist to release them from the stem. Pulling too hard can damage the berries or the plant.
  3. Get your fill: Make sure to carefully place each berry in your basket. You don’t want to return home with a bunch of smushed berries!

Before your visit, make sure to check and confirm blackberries are available for picking. The fruit charts for Carter Mountain Orchard and Chiles Peach Orchard are updated daily with pick-your-own and ready-picked availability.

Storing and Enjoying Blackberries

If you plan to eat or use your blackberries within a few days of picking, place them in a ventilated container in the fridge. When you’re ready to eat, simply rinse and enjoy! For long-lasting storage, blackberries can be frozen for up to six months.

Whether savoring straight from the bush or mixing into a recipe, the best part of your blackberry-picking adventure is savoring its sweet rewards. These vitamin C-packed fruits are a delicious addition to pies, crumbles, wines, jams, and more.
